In the aftermath of WWI, Damien, a young Army officer, must combat his guilt, passion, fear, and post-traumatic stress as he embarks on an unprecedented penance to deliver a German soldier’s death letter. Once Left the Field of Valor is a historical fiction with a touch of romance all wrapped up in 67,500 words.
The story begins with Damien buried alive and narrowly escaping death. During his recovery, he falls in love with his nurse, Emily, who is engaged to a wealthy man from Philadelphia. After Damiens and Emily’s passions ignite, fate tears them away from one another. It’s shortly after this that Damien reads the letter that was slipped into his pocket by German soldier that he mortally wounded. Damien then suffers a series of strange events, meets a fascinating cast of characters as the letter spurs him on his path. Though out his journey, Damien must battle his past, current adversities, and subconscious all while discovering who the war has turned him in to.
