No matter how many times you strike out, you’ll never hit a home run if you don’t step back up to the plate.
As some of you know, aside from my wife, children, and writing my other love is baseball. Every year at this time, I find myself longing for the feel of the ballpark. The cool breeze of summer day caressing the back of my neck as the sun smiles down. The friends that have long sense faded from my life and exist only as memories.

To me baseball is more than a game and its beauty is apparent to all who have fallen in love with it like I have. As Billy Bean says in the movie Moneyball, “how can you not be romantic about baseball?” The game teaches teamwork, dedication, and most importantly perseverance. It’s the only sport where you will without a doubt fail more than you will ever succeed, but you can still achieve greatness.

Writing is a lot like baseball. It presents an idealized world where we can find our happiness. For an author, writing presents an uphill challenge. Even the greats struggle at the start. But as in baseball persistence is the key to opportunity. I will continue to perfect my craft and swing for the fences. After all, no matter how many times you strike out, you’ll never hit a home run if you don’t step back up to the plate.
